Questions for Parents/Music Mentors/Students Past Reflections on Their Lives
a) Does the child like to sing?
b) Does the child want to sing?
c) Does the parent want the child to sing?
d) Is there an agreement between parent and child for the child to do singing and music training?
As we begin the starting word is exercises from facial to feet muscles for balance.
Deep Breathing
The diaphragm and abdominal muscles are working together, no clavicle bones are lifting upward as you inhale and the chest does not do much movement as it is already lifted off the diaphragm. The dorsal muscles have already expanded with the lift of the outstretched arms and the palms facing upward. Deep breathing goes hand in hand with posture.
The Breath Support Mechanism
We use several muscles during the use of breathing, movement and the making of the vocalized sound called Phonation.
Pitch and Rhythm
The movement of sound is in two directions. Firstly, it must go towards its place of resonance for pitch; a space for amplification of the intended pitch to be heard by the singer and listener. This is like a vertical movement of air up into the head spaces and down into the chest spaces via the mouth and windpipe. Secondly, sound must go to where it can escape out of the human body to heard by the human ear. This motion of not only going up and down vertically is now turned into a frontal movement into the front spaces of the face which some teachers refer to as 'moving sound into the face mask'.
